“I think weddings are amazing. They represent one of the most important days in a couple’s life. The excitement and the emotions are priceless. Being able to capture those moments make me feel honored.”Onada Photography

Through her dad’s lenses, Onada Photography was born.  She describes her first encounter of picking up her father’s camera at a young age and began out of mere curiosity. Never in a million years would she imagine that this would be her profession.  Her passion for weddings didn’t develop until she took some amateur shots of a friend getting her makeup done for her wedding day in Jamaica and the rest is history.

She describes her style as fun, laid back but yet stylish.  She focuses on having the client’s personality show through her images.  “I think a combination of my love for photography and my desire to be a successful wedding photographer”, is what she said when asked what keeps her focused.  The support from her mom, fiance and close friends also add to her motivation.

The wedding industry comes with many challenges, and being a woman of color, let alone a woman in any industry poses a glass ceiling for many.  Onada Photography believes that glass ceilings can be broken and how high you climb is dependent on how much effort you put into your craft.  She has seen first hand the benefits and accomplishments of her work thus far and this alone has kept her motivated.

Not as if running your own business isn’t enough, but while managing her clients for upcoming wedding shoots, she is also juggling the planning of  her own wedding.  She hopes to capture all she’s dreamt of in her traditional ceremony in Nigeria.  She said her greatest advantage is that she’s been able to grasp inspiration from other weddings she’s shot, which has helped in the planning stages early on.

Advice she would give to couples, when choosing the ‘right’ moments to capture would be to simply relax and be themselves.  Most importantly, have fun with it.  She finds fun topics to talk about to set the tone of getting to know them a little better and based on common interests, it sets the perfect atmosphere in front of the lens.
